Haag-Streit USA Introduces New Octopus Perimeter and 3-D Technology in Its Surgical Microscopes

The new Octopus 600 perimeter from Haag-Streit USA combines early detection and progression monitoring of glaucoma in one compact unit. In addition to standard white-on-white perimetry, the Octopus 600 features Pulsar, a patented flicker stimulus designed to detect glaucoma early, according to a company news release.

The Octopus 600 features an ergonomic design with a minimal footprint. Large trial lenses, built-in correction for presbyopia, and a newly reconfigured response button are designed to enhance patients’ comfort. The perimeter operates via a touchscreen, keyboard, or mouse and will function as a stand-alone unit or as part of a network.

Haag-Streit USA also announced that it will begin offering Sony Electronics’ medical-grade threedimensional (3-D) video camera, video recorder, and displays with Haag-Streit USA’s line of surgical microscopes, according to a news release.

The high-definition, medically compliant equipment is designed to enable physicians to capture, record, and display 3-D video in the OR with the ability to share the procedure in 3-D, both in real time and for later playback.
