Katena Acquires IOP Ophthalmics


Katena Products, Inc., has acquired IOP Ophthalmics, Inc., according to a company news release. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

IOP Ophthalmics develops, commercializes, and distributes ophthalmic surgical devices and biologics. The company offers amniotic membrane technologies for the ocular surface such as the Ambio2 and Ambio5 membrane allografts. It also provides glaucoma devices such as the Molteno drainage implants, a lamellar patch graft, and products for oculoplastic indications such as eyelid spacer grafts, gold eyelid weights, orbital implant wraps, ptosis slings, and tissue expanders.

“This combination of two great companies not only creates greater critical mass in the ophthalmology marketplace, but it enhances our ability to provide more clinical solutions and be of greater value to our customers,” Bill Friedberg, president and CEO of Katena, said in the news release. Jason Malecka, president and founder of IOP Ophthalmics, and Erich Ziegler, vice president and CFO of the company, will continue to work with the combined company and focus on global product growth, according to the news release.
