MIGS Unplugged Live: Rethinking Early Intervention in Glaucoma Care
Iqbal Ike K. Ahmed, MD, FRCSC, and Arsham Sheybani, MD, host a special live episode of MIGS Unplugged with guests Christine Funke, MD, and Brian Shafer, MD. Filmed during the ASCRS annual meeting in Los Angeles, the panel discusses the multiple points of intervention in the glaucoma patient journey, early intervention with procedural therapy, and the need for a robust diagnostic protocol to track progression. The panel also fields questions from a live audience of glaucoma surgeons.
Innovative Technologies to Revolutionize Practice
On Ophthalmology off the Grid, John Berdahl, MD, joins hosts Blake Williamson, MD, MPH, and Gary Wörtz, MD, to share insights into the journey of turning an idea into reality. Dr. Berdahl highlights his experience with the research and development of pressure-equalizing goggles, a nonsurgical, nonpharmacologic treatment to lower IOP by creating a small vacuum to relieve pressure on the optic nerve. He describes the ups and downs of launching a product, including funding, FDA trials, and beyond.
Combination MIGS Procedures
On Glaucoma Case Files, Rachel G. Simpson, MD, and Roya Garakani, DO, welcome back Craig J. Chaya, MD, to share thoughts on patient selection for combination MIGS procedures. He explains how viscodilation to expand Schlemm canal has improved the learning curve for securing a good position during Hydrus Microstent (Alcon) implantation. Drs. Simpson and Garakani share a surgical video demonstrating the use of iTrack canaloplasty (Nova Eye Medical) and Hydrus placement. They review the results of combination versus standalone procedures and comment on how glaucoma surgeons can advocate for patients’ best interests in the face of reimbursement restrictions.
